I was deeply saddened yesterday to hear of the passing of Dr. Klaus Phillips. For me, Klaus was the Director of the MFA in Screenwriting program that I attend at Hollins University. He was a wonderful teacher, bringing insight and perspective to every film we discussed. He was, indeed, a cinephile with impeccable taste. Klaus continually surprised me with the breadth of his knowledge and his passion for new and exciting film. He was an internationally respected film scholar, particularly focused on German cinema. But most importantly: He was an inspiration to the many writers with whom he worked. He was an inspiration to me. Thank you, Klaus. You will be missed.
